A Humbled Heart and Mud on Our Hands: The Story Behind the "Environment Hero" Award

The entire Sukher Swarga Foundation family is filled with immense pride today as our founder and CEO, Swapan Suin, receives the prestigious "Environment Hero" 2024 award.

While this is a profound personal honor for Swapan, he is quick to state that this recognition is not a trophy for one person. It is a powerful testament to the tireless spirit of countless individuals and organizations dedicated to protecting our planet. This award belongs to every single person who has stood by us on this journey.

From the very beginning, our foundation has operated with a simple belief: we don't just talk about change from an office; we make it happen in the field. Our work is done with our hands in the soil, planting mangroves, establishing nurseries, and standing on the front lines against environmental challenges. It’s been a road filled with many obstacles, but with every small step, we've moved forward.

This award is a tribute to our incredible team, our beloved students, and all our well-wishers. It is for the many volunteers who have given their time and passion to our mission. It’s for the communities we work with, who have welcomed our efforts to build a more sustainable future. As a social worker, Mangroves specialist, and disaster management specialist, Swapan has always led us with a clear vision and unwavering dedication to these communities.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the awarding organization for this honor. This recognition fuels our fire and strengthens our resolve to do even more.

Our community, while resilient, has long grappled with limited access to quality education. Sundarban Mangrove Nursery | Sukher Swarga's Mangrove Nursery #H2 #H3

The Sundarbans is a special place, World Heritage Site/ Biosphere Reserve/ National Park/ Wildlife sanctuary/ Tiger Reserve full of amazing nature. But it's also a place that needs protection from climate change. Mangrove trees are the best natural defense, and a group called the Sukher Swarga Foundation, Top 10 Sundarban Grassroots NGO is doing incredible work to protect them. This year, 2025 the foundation has done something amazing. They grew 100,000 (one lakh) mangrove saplings in their nursery with the support of Self help Group Women till now. That's a huge number and shows just how dedicated they are to their mission. They don't just use these saplings for one thing. They have two main goals:   Helping Others : They sell a lot of their saplings to other non-profit groups (NGOs). This helps more people plant trees and protect more areas.
