Empowering Women, One Step at a Time: A Sanitary Awareness Camp in the Sundarbans 🩸

The remote, tide-swept lands of the Sundarbans present unique challenges, and among them, one of the most significant and often unspoken is menstrual hygiene. For generations, the lack of access to proper sanitary products and widespread misconceptions have put women's health and dignity at risk. But on a recent day in Purba Atapur and Manipur Sandeshkhali, a new chapter began to unfold. Our team at Sukher Swarga Foundation had the immense privilege of conducting a sanitary awareness camp and distribution 1000 sanitary napkins, reaching more than 1000 women and girls.
The day was filled with a sense of hope and empowerment. The women, many of whom have faced immense hardship, gathered with an eagerness to learn. Our volunteers engaged in open, honest conversations, creating a safe space to discuss a topic that is often considered taboo. We talked about the science behind menstruation, the importance of using clean and hygienic sanitary pads, and the dangers of unhygienic practices.
The impact was immediate and profound. Many women shared their personal struggles—the use of old rags, the fear of infection, and the shame associated with their periods. By providing a proper understanding of menstrual hygiene, we not only offered them a practical solution but also gave them a sense of control over their own bodies and health.
The camp wasn't just about distributing sanitary pads; it was about education and empowerment. We provided each participant with a packet of sanitary pads and demonstrated how to use and dispose of them safely. The smiles and nods of understanding from the women were a testament to the power of this simple act.
Looking Ahead
This camp is just the beginning. The health and well-being of the women of the Sundarbans are central to the overall prosperity of their communities. We believe that by ensuring they have access to the right resources and knowledge, we are not just improving their individual lives but building a stronger, healthier society. We are deeply grateful to everyone who supported this initiative and look forward to continuing our work in other villages.
Join us in our mission to break the silence and stigma surrounding menstrual hygiene. Your support can make a world of difference.
