Green Steps Towards a Brighter Future: A Plantation Drive at Atapur Kenaram High School

At Sukher Swarga Foundation, our commitment to environmental sustainability is a core part of our mission. We believe in empowering the next generation to be stewards of the planet. Recently, we had the wonderful opportunity to collaborate with the students of Atapur Kenaram High School in Sandeshkhali, North 24 Parganas, on a special plantation drive that was as much about community spirit as it was about planting trees.

The event kicked off with a vibrant procession led by the students. Carrying saplings and banners with powerful environmental slogans, they marched through the school grounds, raising awareness and demonstrating their dedication to a greener future. The air was filled with excitement as the students chanted slogans, creating a powerful message of hope and collective action. This procession wasn't just a walk; it was a visible declaration of their commitment to a healthier environment.

Following the procession, the students took to the designated areas, ready to plant. We guided them on the proper techniques for planting saplings, emphasizing the importance of nurturing each young tree to ensure its survival. The students' enthusiasm was infectious as they carefully dug holes, placed the saplings, and watered them, each action a small but significant step towards building a more sustainable future. This hands-on activity transformed abstract concepts of environmentalism into a tangible, rewarding experience.

During an interactive session, we spoke with the students about the critical role of trees in combating climate change and protecting their local ecosystem, especially in a region as ecologically sensitive as Sandeshkhali. We discussed how mangrove forests act as natural barriers against cyclones and storm surges and how planting trees can help restore ecological balance. The students' questions and insights showed a deep understanding of the challenges facing their community and a genuine desire to be part of the solution.

The plantation drive at Atapur Kenaram High School is a shining example of how a simple act can create a ripple effect of positive change. By engaging the students in this way, we not only planted trees but also sowed the seeds of environmental consciousness and responsibility. We are confident that these young minds will continue to be advocates for nature, inspiring their families and communities to join them in this vital work.

Sundarban Mangrove Nursery | Sukher Swarga's Mangrove Nursery #H2 #H3

The Sundarbans is a special place, World Heritage Site/ Biosphere Reserve/ National Park/ Wildlife sanctuary/ Tiger Reserve full of amazing nature. But it's also a place that needs protection from climate change. Mangrove trees are the best natural defense, and a group called the Sukher Swarga Foundation, Top 10 Sundarban Grassroots NGO is doing incredible work to protect them. This year, 2025 the foundation has done something amazing. They grew 100,000 (one lakh) mangrove saplings in their nursery with the support of Self help Group Women till now. That's a huge number and shows just how dedicated they are to their mission. They don't just use these saplings for one thing.
