In the beautiful but tough lands of the Sunderbans, a man named Debkanta Manna is doing amazing work. He is an Operations Executive for the Sukher Swarga Foundation. His job is to lead a very important project: to save and grow the forests of mangrove trees.

Debkanta is from Manipur, Sandeshkhali, North 24 Parganas, and he studied at West Bengal State University. But what makes him special is his huge heart and his endless dedication. You can see it in how he cares for every single tree.

The Big Challenge

Planting a tree might sound easy, but not here. The Sunderbans is a place where the sea and land meet. The ground is made of soft mud. The ocean's tides, both high and low, constantly hit the land with strong waves. These waves can easily wash away a small plant. The water is also very salty, which is not good for many young plants. Because of all these challenges, it’s one of the hardest places in the world to plant trees.

But Debkanta has become a true expert. He didn't learn from a book or a lab. He learned from the land itself. He knows exactly how to plant a tree so it can hold on tight. He knows when the waves are strongest and how to protect the small saplings. He understands when the soil needs to be added to keep the plants steady and how to make sure they can handle the salty water. He has so much experience that he knows exactly what to do to help the trees survive and grow strong.

A Successful Mission

Because of Debkanta’s hard work and the great leadership of the foundation's founder, Swapan Suin, the project has been a huge success. They have planted an amazing number of trees: over 4.8 lakh (480,000) mangrove saplings. This is a big win for nature and for the people who live in the Sunderbans.

Debkanta might not be a scientist or speak many different languages, but he speaks the most important language of all: the language of nature. He shows us that with dedication, passion, and a good heart, anyone can make a huge difference in the world. He is a true champion for the environment.

The Sundarbans is a special place, World Heritage Site/ Biosphere Reserve/ National Park/ Wildlife sanctuary/ Tiger Reserve full of amazing nature. But it's also a place that needs protection from climate change. Mangrove trees are the best natural defense, and a group called the Sukher Swarga Foundation, Top 10 Sundarban Grassroots NGO is doing incredible work to protect them. This year, 2025 the foundation has done something amazing. They grew 100,000 (one lakh) mangrove saplings in their nursery with the support of Self help Group Women till now. That's a huge number and shows just how dedicated they are to their mission. They don't just use these saplings for one thing.
