Mangroves Bachao: Our Mission Continues!

The monsoon rains have arrived in the Sundarbans, and for us at Sukher Swarga Foundation, it's a call to action! Today marks the official start of our Mangroves Bachao project for the year, a crucial effort in our ongoing commitment to protecting and restoring the vital ecosystems of this incredible region.

Even with the rain falling steadily, our dedicated teams are out in full force, putting up fencing in our chosen plantation sites. This isn't just about marking boundaries; it's about safeguarding the future. The fences will protect our precious young saplings from grazing animals and other disturbances, giving them the best possible chance to establish themselves and thrive.

And speaking of saplings, we're thrilled to announce that we've already prepared over 100,000 mangrove saplings – each one a tiny beacon of hope for a resilient Sundarbans. But we're not stopping there! Our ambitious target is to prepare and plant an additional 100,000 saplings, bringing our total for the year to a monumental 200,000 new mangroves!

Why Mangroves?

For those unfamiliar with the magic of these unique trees, mangroves are the unsung heroes of coastal ecosystems. They are:

  Natural Protectors: Their intricate root systems act as a living wall, buffering communities from cyclones, storm surges, and erosion.

  Biodiversity Hotspots: Mangrove forests provide critical habitats for countless species of fish, crabs, birds, and even the iconic Royal Bengal Tiger.

  Climate Warriors: They are incredibly efficient at absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, playing a vital role in mitigating climate change.

  Livelihood Sustainers: Healthy mangrove ecosystems support the livelihoods of local communities through sustainable fishing and other resource-based activities.

The Heart of Our Work

At Sukher Swarga Foundation, we are the largest NGO working tirelessly in the Sundarbans, and our Mangroves Bachao plantation drives are at the very heart of what we do. It's a massive undertaking, requiring careful planning, community involvement, and immense dedication from our staff and volunteers.

Every sapling planted is a step towards a stronger, more sustainable future for the Sundarbans and its people. It's an investment in environmental resilience, biodiversity, and the well-being of communities on the front lines of climate change.

Sundarban Mangrove Nursery | Sukher Swarga's Mangrove Nursery #H2 #H3

The Sundarbans is a special place, World Heritage Site/ Biosphere Reserve/ National Park/ Wildlife sanctuary/ Tiger Reserve full of amazing nature. But it's also a place that needs protection from climate change. Mangrove trees are the best natural defense, and a group called the Sukher Swarga Foundation, Top 10 Sundarban Grassroots NGO is doing incredible work to protect them. This year, 2025 the foundation has done something amazing. They grew 100,000 (one lakh) mangrove saplings in their nursery with the support of Self help Group Women till now. That's a huge number and shows just how dedicated they are to their mission. They don't just use these saplings for one thing.
