The River Took Him: A Sundarbans Tragedy
The rivers of the Sundarbans are often shrouded in a veil of mystery. These waterways provide a livelihood but also take lives, and such was the case with Sunil Mondal.
He went to the river to fish on a Thursday afternoon and never returned. His colleagues initially thought he might have gone elsewhere, but after an extensive search, there was no sign of him. Soon, rumors began to spread among the locals, with some speculating, "A crocodile must have taken him." This news devastated his family and the villagers.
After a two-day search, Sunil's lifeless body was found just 100 meters from where he was last fishing. The bite marks on his body pointed to a crocodile attack. However, the exact cause of his death remains unknown, making the incident even more tragic. The rivers of the Sundarbans repeatedly remind us how helpless humans can be in their struggle against nature.
