🌱 5 Lakh Reasons to Celebrate: How Sukher Swarga is Building a Bio-Shield in the Sundarbans




The Sundarbans, a labyrinth of tidal rivers and dense mangrove forests, is a world treasure—but it’s also on the front lines of the climate crisis. With rising sea levels and increasingly fierce cyclones, the need for robust coastal defense has never been greater.

That’s where the Sukher Swarga Foundation's "Mangroves Bachao" (Save Mangroves) project comes in. It’s not just about planting trees; it’s about growing a future, one sapling at a time.

The Scale of Our Impact: A Forest Reborn

We are thrilled to announce that, with the support of our dedicated partners and community members, we have successfully planted approximately 5 lakh (500,000) mangrove saplings!

This massive reforestation effort does more than just green the riverbanks—it creates a powerful, living bio-shield. These mangroves serve as the region's first line of defense, absorbing the force of cyclonic storms and holding the fragile soil together against constant erosion.

👩‍🌾 Planting Seeds of Change: Empowerment Through Nurseries

The heart of our success lies not in machines, but in the hands of the local women.

We actively involve Self-Help Group (SHG) women in running the sapling nurseries. This initiative is a true win-win: they gain a sustainable livelihood and a dependable source of income, all while becoming the key conservation stewards of their own environment. They are the true guardians of the Sundarbans' future.

🌟 Looking Ahead: Our 2025 Goal

We are not slowing down. Building on this momentum, we have already cultivated 1.5 lakh (150,000) saplings in our community-led nurseries, ready for planting in the upcoming 2025 season.

Sundarban Mangrove Nursery | Sukher Swarga's Mangrove Nursery #H2 #H3

The Sundarbans is a special place, World Heritage Site/ Biosphere Reserve/ National Park/ Wildlife sanctuary/ Tiger Reserve full of amazing nature. But it's also a place that needs protection from climate change. Mangrove trees are the best natural defense, and a group called the Sukher Swarga Foundation, Top 10 Sundarban Grassroots NGO is doing incredible work to protect them. This year, 2025 the foundation has done something amazing. They grew 100,000 (one lakh) mangrove saplings in their nursery with the support of Self help Group Women till now. That's a huge number and shows just how dedicated they are to their mission. They don't just use these saplings for one thing.
